SANDING HARDWOOD FLOORS IS A SKILL AND DEMANDS A PROFESSIONAL

While you can easily hire a sander for your hardwood floors, it is generally a better idea to make use of a professional. Sanding floors is a skill and a lack of training and expertise can lead to unsatisfactory results or worse.

Sanding a floor yourself can take a lot of time and in the end, you still might not be happy with results. The sanding might be uneven and patchy, particularly when viewed in a good light. At worst, you can do sufficient damage that you will need to replace the entire floor, which can prove unnecessarily costly when you could simply have hired someone to do the job for you.

If nothing else, the sanders that you can hire are often not the right tools for the job. You will often need a heavyweight, high-power sander and you are unlikely to be able to get your hands on one of these. These sorts of sanders ensure quick results, but more importantly work evenly, ensuring a better finish. Lighter sanders will vibrate more, creating unwanted stripes and waves on the surface of the wood. Professionals will have the right equipment and will be trained to use it as well, so if you are at all unsure of your ability to sand a floor, hire someone for the task to ensure peace of mind.
