ERIF UK MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS
ERIF  UK  MATCHPLAY  CHAMPIONSHIPS @ ROMSEY G.C 12/05/08
Matchplay, for those who are not aware of the format, is when two people play head to head against each other, competing for holes.
There were 32 professionals competing in the preliminary round of this event. My opponent for this round was Phillip Bryden of Arlesford Golf Club, a former champion.
We had a very close match and ended up being all square after 18 holes. In order to determine the winner, we had to carry on in sudden death back down the first. After a few excellent up and downs from the edge of the greens is was able to clinch victory on the 22nd Hole (4th Extra).
After lunch I faced David Porter of Wellow Golf Club, possibly the favourite for the title and also a past winner. David is an ex England U18 Captain and has had just as much success on the professional circuit as he did as an amateur. Once again we had a very close game with me managing to come out on top with a win on the par 5 18th.
I now play Jon Barnes of Sherfield Oaks on the 30th of June in the 3rd round.
