Rowlands Castle is a testing, tricky parkland golf course that has a number of sharp dog legged holes. The course measures 6,612yds and has a par of 72.
This was the last tournament of the year and was also one of the most important as I had been leading the Hampshire Trainees Order of Merit for 2008 and needed one more good finish.
Conditions were tough once again but the course was in very good condition as it usually is.
I started the round with a very good chip in on the first for birdie which set me up for the rest of the front nine only dropping one shot on the ninth hole. I struggled my way through the next three/four holes, getting up and down for pars at every opportunity. Made a brilliant birdie at the short par 4 16th to take me back to level par for the round. I bogeyed the 17th which is a long par 5 down a hill. Reached the last hole knowing that a birdie wouls almost certainly take the title on a day like this. Hit a brilliant drive straight down the middle leaving myself about a 7 iron into the well gaurded 18th green. Hit my approach shot to within 6ft but sadly missed the birdie chance. Luckily, level par was good enough to be best score for the day and I was happy to have won my second event of the year and the 2008 O.O.M.
