COMBINE YOUR BEDROOM AND BATHROOM WITH HARDWOOD FLOORING

In an article last month for The Times on the latest interior design trends, Jessie Hewitson and Anna Mikhailov have said that the boundaries between bedrooms and bathrooms are disappearing.

Certainly more en-suites seem to be appearing, and even showers and baths are appearing in bedrooms. The shift seems to begin with the removal of the en suite door, ensuring you have the same flooring throughout to ensure a smooth transition, and then removing the separating wall.

Some new bedrooms have shower facilities in the room, with a ceramic section of flooring and just 3 glass walls to separate it. Having hardwood floors in the rest of the bedroom would be sensible and comfortable, and walking over carpet in wet feet will become very frustrating and may damage your carpet.

Hewitson and Mikhailov did warn readers to make sure that they check the strength of their bedroom floor, before starting any renovation work, as you wouldn’t want a full bath falling through into the living room! They also recommended hardwood flooring if you are thinking of converting your rooms like this as they are solid, strong and durable.

So, if you like the idea of studio apartments, but live in a three bedroomed house, why not bring an element of that to your room, by combining the bedroom and bathroom. A deep solid hardwood floor would provide a fashionable, easily maintainable solution.
