HOW TO CARE FOR SOLID WOOD FLOORING

Wood flooring is a great addition to any home. Its beauty and utility adds value, but it needs to be cared for. As high quality wood is quite expensive, it is in your best interests to do so.

A hardwood floor can last for years provided you care for it properly. There are certain things that endanger it and you should guard against them. Frequent scrubbing, harsh light and damp can all ultimately damage your floor.

Avoid dragging furniture around. Heavy items and those with solid legs can scratch the floor’s surface, leaving unsightly marks. Always try and lift furniture if you need to move it.

Another way of combating this problem is by affixing soft pads to the parts which will be in contact with the floor. These could be plastic or fabric and will prevent scratching. Floors can also be scratched by bits of grit or sand that get brought in on people’s feet. If you keep a mat by the door, you can minimise this problem.

If you spill something on your floor, try and clean it up immediately. Even water can stain, so act quickly. By doing so and following the above tips, you should ensure your floor remains in good condition.
