When it comes to choosing what type of wood flooring you would like in your home you need to consider what the room that you are re-flooring is going to be used for. If you are re-flooring your hall, living room or kitchen which experiences a large amount of traffic coming in and out of the room, then it would be worthwhile choosing a hardwood such as Oak or Ash.
However, if you want to lay new flooring in your dining room or another room that you maybe don’t use quite so often, you may be able to get away with using a softer wood such as Beech or Cherry wood.
It is important you consider which type of wood to use in which room so that you don’t have to keep replacing your wood flooring every time that the wood starts to look worn.
There are some things you can do to prevent your wood flooring from being damaged by the traffic that is coming in and out of your home. Shoes, especially high heels cause the most damage. It can weaken the wood and leave imprints which over time can look very unattractive. Taking your shoes off before you come in the house would minimise the amount of damage to your hardwood flooring.
