DOS AND DON’TS WHEN IT COMES TO HARDWOOD FLOORING

Once the hardwood flooring has been laid in your home, you will have been told by the professional floorer what you can and cannot do when it comes to your hardwood flooring.

The most obvious is keeping your new flooring looking new and fresh for as long as possible. Maintaining your hardwood flooring is just as important as vacuuming your carpets, you need to take time and pay attention to areas that might have a lot of traffic. The easiest way to make sure your hardwood floor is kept clean is to mop it and sweep it on a regular basis.

When mopping the floor, take care not to saturate the wood with water. You only need a very damp mop and if you are sweeping you should be using a soft bristle brush. Hard bristles can leave marks on hardwood flooring if you aren’t careful so it is best to have a soft bristle brush.

If any liquids spill onto the floor, they should be cleaned up quickly to avoid the liquid from soaking into the wood and causing long term damage. Wood that is damaged by water or liquids can become weak and will eventually start to rot.
