UTILISING YOUR ORIGINAL HARDWOOD FLOORING

If you live in a period property, you may well have original hardwood floorboards underneath your carpets in various rooms in your home. Many people will pay a fortune for a house that has original floorboards because they are so hard to come by nowadays. Flooring is not laid like it used to be so you are very lucky if you have your original hardwood floorboards still intact.

You may well be wondering what you are going to do with your new hardwood floorboards now they have been exposed. Firstly, you will need to get in a hardwood floorboard specialist to come and assess what work needs to be done to your original floorboards.

Most floorboards will require sanding, staining and varnishing so that they are suitable for being walked on and to prevent any damage to them in the future. Depending on the age of the floorboards and the state of the floorboards themselves, some of the boards may need to be replaced. Your specialist will ensure that they are replaced with like for like floorboards, you won’t be able to tell that any of them have been replaced once the specialist is finished working his magic on your flooring.
