CHOOSE CHERRY FOR YOUR HARDWOOD FLOORS

Having made the decision to install a hardwood floor, your next decision is which wood to use. Oak is what perhaps first springs to mind, but have you considered cherry?

It is important when selecting your wood to select a hardwood that will not scratch too easily. Cherry meets these requirements. While slightly softer than oak, it is robust enough to withstand pretty much anything that you can throw at it in the course of your day-to-day life.

Cherry is a beautiful wood which deepens in colour with age. The shade varies from creamy white young wood to a reddish brown. It also boasts a fine, straight grain which is instantly recognisable.

If you do opt for cherry, make sure you leave it in the room in which it is to be installed for a couple of days before carrying out the job. The reason for this is that wood expands or contracts depending on the humidity of the room and you want it to be acclimatised before commencing installation.

Many different woods are available and cherry might be the one that meets your taste better than all the others, so don’t discount it.
